Perhaps sensing that I have neither read the book or watched the original, Sony Pictures has released 18 character images and biographies to help myself and those like me get acquainted with David Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Starring Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright, and Joley Richardson, the pic centers on Lisbeth Salander’s (Mara) investigation into the Vanger family alongside journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig).
Check out each of the character images and biographies after the jump. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo hits theaters later this year on December 21st.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first film in Columbia Pictures’ three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy. Directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, the film is based on the first novel in the trilogy, which altogether have sold 50 million copies in 46 countries and become a worldwide phenomenon. The screenplay is by Steven Zaillian.

Bob Tyrrell Having an incredible artist for a father, I grew up wanting to be an artist myself. I started playing guitar in my teens and gave up art completely to pursue a career in music. I spent the next fifteen years playing in heavy metal bands and working a factory job. I’d wanted to get tattooed for years and, just shy of turning 30, I got my first tattoo. Of course, I was hooked and got my sleeves and a full back piece done within a few years. During this time I got back into drawing and took a few art classes. Now it was time to learn how to tattoo! I took some drawings to Tramp, the owner of Eternal Tattoos, who are based in the Detroit area where I grew up. I was offered an apprenticeship, and within three months I had quit my job and was tattooing full time. I was 34 years old when I started – a little late in the game, but better late than never! Tom Renshaw was working there and took me under his wing. Tom went WAY out of his way to help me, he really pushed me those first couple of years. I learned more from him than anyone in the business, and I’ll be forever grateful to him and Tramp – I owe them a lot. I stayed at Eternal for six years. I am currently working on the road doing tattoo conventions and guest spots at tattoo shops. Check the on the road page for my schedule. So I guess I finally grew up and became an artist – my original plan as a kid. I think I found my true calling. I want to cut back on traveling a little so I can learn how to paint, do more fine art and tattoo more, but I just can't stop! I’d like to thank all my friends who’ve helped me become a better artist. There’s way too many to name, but I’ll name a few: my father Robert J. Tyrrell, Paul Booth (still my biggest influence and favorite tattoo artist), Robert Hernandez (fucking amazing!), Guy Aitchison, Filip Leu, Shane O’Neill, Jack Rudy, Jay Wheeler, Jimé Litwalk, Joe Capobianco, Gunnar, everyone at Last Rites, Mario Barth, Shige, Brian Everett, Boris, Deano Cook, and a million other artists – you know who you are! Thanks for the never ending inspiration.

I met Kirk Alley in 1998 on a venture to start the design process for my own full back tattoo. I was in awe to see the amazing work he created as well as his unique conduct of business (very personal and tailored to each client). Within a few weeks, Kirk accepted me as his apprentice and I started training under his expertise*. I have since worked privately in Scotland, Florida and primarily in Los Angeles.
I take great interest in many forms of art and continue working in oils and other media. For tattoo designs, I love strong and bold that are complimentary to the natural curves of the human canvas. As strange as it sounds, I am overjoyed when a client walks in with the most hideous, horrible tattoo, in dire need of a cover up. This is when I can make a negative experience into a wonderful one! Like extreme makeover of the tattoo world, the ugly scars of a regrettable mistake disappear in all but a few hours. Similarly, deep surgery scars and stretch marks can be covered as if they were never there. It is the most rewarding work I can do in this field, and I love it!

To anyone looking to become a tattoo artist, my advice is this: Find a talented artist whose work you greatly admire, and just ask! Sterilization is number one in any tattoo studio or shop...and secondly, you need to be comfortable around the artist. Tattoo artistry is a creative outlet and you'll never have a monotonous routine! Might I add, you make a lot of great friends along the way!

Oh yeah....and I never got that back piece!

*I must add that Blood-Borne Pathogens, Hazardous Waste handling and Hepatitus vaccinations were primary aspects of this professional training, through the Red Cross, OSHA, County Health Departments, and other organizations.? ?Health & safety must be a primary concern with any tattoo, and is something that I take very seriously.
